THE LOST BOY

One afternoon in our Sahyog-A-Child (Railway Kids) Center in Kolkata, a police van arrived. We were terrified seeing two policemen with a gun inside the van because we thought they had come to arrest us. But then those policemen stepped into our Center bringing a boy along. The boy could not remember his parents’ name, address, and even his own name. He was about 12 years old and not able to speak properly. He only kept saying “Give me one Rupee to get some tea and food” and then singing a song.

The police asked us to keep the boy in our Center. To our relief, they expressed their happiness with our presence in the area and promised us of help should we need it in the future. We are very happy to see changes in this boy’s life as now he starts to speak more and he has stopped asking for money. We believe he would come back to a normal life and live as a boy his age would live.
