Flood Relief
With the frequent flooding that happen in UP and Bihar, ASSI had a Flood Relief Team that would be ready to help when the disaster occurs. In 2007, ASSI have been giving help to people in Piprauli, 12 km outside of our office in Gorakhpur. We have chosen 7 villages where we found that the people suffered the most. In this area the flood flushed away a lot of houses. They are also very poor and are now suffering the need of both shelter and food. We supplied food for 1,600 families and served them with medical camps also.
Tsunami Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Program
ASSI is continuing our service in the Tsunami Area in 2007. If last year we provided water drinking water for many people, then this year we are aiming to do community development and help build the community in a holistic approach. Now that the reconstruction phase is over, ASSI continues to work with the rehabilitation program and long-term social plan to develop the community, started with opening a new Children Literacy Center and Sewing Center on August 2007.
